Lindsay's DIY wedding guest book pen

On Saturday, Lindsay and I went to Paper-Source to find some materials for our DIY Bachelorette Party invitations, and she found a shiny gold guest book as a bonus! While wandering around, we spotted Paper-Source's flower kit corner, and thought, wouldn't it be cute to put one of those paper flowers on a pen to go with her wedding guest book? We thought so. We bought the magnolia kit, went to my apartment, and proceeded to make a paper flower. How hard could it be?
Well, let me tell you: pretty darn hard. Those little suckers are a pain in the rear to make...after over two hours, we finally had one flower completed, and we stuck it to an ink pen.
Gotta love DIY wedding projects! I know someone who made a ton of these paper flowers for her wedding bouquets. I now have an insane amount of respect for her...and her obvious amount of patience. At least they're pretty to look at!

All the world needs is MORE COWBELL

Did anyone watch Conan's final episode on NBC Friday night? It was really good...but Will Ferrell closing out the final music performance playing the cowbell pretty much made my LIFE. Fingers crossed that Conan pops up on Fox in the next several life won't be the same without some Coco in my daily life. Sad face.

Julia Child's My Life in France

Last week I finished Julia Child's My Life in France, and it was a beautiful book. Julia lived such an interesting and exciting life and was lucky to spend it all with her soul mate, Paul. So many of the things she writes about were featured in the movie, Julie & Julia, so I was already familiar with them. But the way the chapters are written, you feel like you're there cooking and living with Julia in France, and the scenes and meals she describes are very vivid. Julia Child seemed to be such a charming woman, full of life, one who loves a new adventure, and is inspirational to me for those very reasons. It was a really nice read - I recommend it :)

Tickled pink :)

Natty Michelle reached 26,000 hits yesterday! I can hardly believe it.
Thank you so much to all of you who check in and read regularly! You have no idea how much it means to me. BIG love to ALL of you out there!!

Oooo, my new favorite etsy shop (spotted on Poppytalk), CHALK CHALK:

Can you even believe all of the Late Night NBC drama that's going on these days?! It is ridiculous. You don't move Conan all the way to LA to take his well-deserved spot on the Tonight Show just to push him back 7 months later and give the prime time spot back to Leno. Unbelievable! The amazing painting above was done by Mike Mitchell in support of Conan staying on as the Tonight Show host (pass it on!!).

As we all know, Conan announced today that he will not be staying on to host the Tonight Show at 12:05. Let's all cross our fingers that Conan gets his Late Show on another network...and soon! We love you, Coco.

She & Him - more Zooey!

A pal shared this video with me yesterday regarding my 500 Days of Summer post, and it was too good not to share with all of you. This is a short music video featuring the lovely Zooey and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to She & Him's "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" (Zooey's band with M.Ward). It is absolutely adorable...another video that guarantees a smile.

Thanks, Ashley!

My plate wall!

Dun da dun! My plate wall! The plates include a peacock that I painted myself locally at Wired & Fired, two plates featuring strawberries that I've collected over time, and an oval antique plate adorned with flowers that was my great great grandmother's! (I hope it never falls - eek!) The fish in the front kind of gives it a certain direction, don't you think? I had to hang a few of my little Fiestaware plates for now until I can find some other unique plates to hang in their places. But on the upside, I now officially have a new thing to hunt for at thrift stores and estate sales...plates. Pretty, pretty plates. Yay!

Cottage love

How warm and fuzzy and cozy is this cottage? I wish I knew where it's located...I found it on one of my favorite home decor and design blogs, La Belle Vie, and they didn't cite the city or town this house is from. It kind of reminds me of Kate Winslet's house from The Holiday - you just want to jump right in, wrap up in a quilt, make some hot cocoa and read a good book. While I'm at it, here are some photos for the inspiration files of The Holiday's English cottage:
After doing a little research I found out that the amazing cottage from The Holiday was built for the movie. Too bad. Also, I must be on a Nancy Meyers kick lately, because I just finished a post for tomorrow's edition on the set design of It's Complicated, another one of her movies. Enjoy enjoy!

500 Days of Summer

I watched 500 Days of Summer today, and I loved it. It's not what I expected, but I found that I really related to the story...of both characters. I know what's it's like to have my heart utterly and completely broken by someone...but I also know what it's like to date someone and feel that something isn't quite "there" for a long-term commitment, then meeting someone soon after where you feel instantly sure of the future. To totally get what I'm talking about, you'll probably have to see the movie for yourself! I highly recommend it. My favorite scene is when they are romping and flirting around Ikea (Zooey is so stinkin CUTE!!) - youtube totally disabled the link, so you will have to see it by clicking here. I promise it will make you smile.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

There is a place like no place on Earth; some say to survive it, you need to be as mad as a hatter. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland comes out in theaters this March (in 3D!), and I can hardly wait to see it. It looks fantastic, in a way that only Tim Burton can deliver...and really, who can think of anyone better to play the Mad Hatter than Johnny Depp?
