Today is a good day. I'm headed west with my friend Natasha for Photo Field Trip at El Capitan Canyon, California! The weekend is going to be filled with learning and inspiration and new friends, and I am so excited to be a part of it all. Even though I've been dreaming of getting away to sunny California this entire winter, it seems Mother Nature has a trick or two up her sleeve. Rain and tornadoes (what?!) are in the forecast for the weekend, but I'm hoping it blows over fast and the sun comes out for awhile while we're in town. I mean, I would really like to see the park as it appears in the above photo...complete with wildlife in my front yard. That would be nice.
But even bad weather can't put a damper on the weekend's itinerary. Here are the classes I've signed up for:
"Marketing for Every Idea" // Whitney Chamberlin
"DIY Public Relations" // Sonja Rasula
"The Art of Styling" // Anna Naphtali
"Natural Light" // Jessica Peterson
"Journaling your way to a Successful Shoot"// Max Wanger
"Mobile Phone Photo Field Trip" // Paul Octavious and Michael O'Neal
"Lighting Interiors the Natural Way" // Laure Joliet
"Beauty Lighting Outdoors" // Courtney Dailey
I can't believe I'm going to be learning from Paul Octavious -- I'm over the moon. I've said it before, but his Instagram feed is constantly wowing and inspiring me, and I've been a fan of his work for a long time. Max Wanger is also someone I've always admired and can't wait to meet. And of course, Whitney Chamberlin of Our Labor of Love is wildly successful and takes the most beautiful photographs...and has a little something called the Smile Booth under his belt. I'm going to try not to geek out too much while I'm out there...because every last instructor is so talented and accomplished and fantastic. I feel like I have so much to learn from everyone, so I'm going to be a sponge for the next few days and soak up all that I can.
I'm also really pumped to finally get some hands-on experience with styling photographs, something I tend to struggle with. Anna Naphtali is one of the best in the business, and judging by the fact that her classes filled up in minutes, I think I'm in for a treat!
I'll be back in Athens super late Monday night, but in the meantime I'll be Instagramming and tweeting while I'm gone. Also, have y'all read any good books lately? I have "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" downloaded and ready to go, but I could use another suggestion or two -- tomorrow and Monday are going to be lo-o-ong travel days.
Have a great weekend, everyone! It's gonna be a good one. -- Natty
